The Jaising family has been involved in the shipping industry since 1940, when the late Mr. Jairamdas Gokaldas Jaising started his career in shipping by working with his uncle. In 1949 Mr. Jairamdas G. Jaising ventured on his own to lend his expertise in the shipping field and started his company M/s. J.Gokaldas, which he got registered with the Bombay Freight Brokers Association, Mumbai.
Mr. Jairamdas Gokaldas Jaising with his nature of perseverance and caring attitude found it relatively easy to make friends with the officers in many Shipping Agencies, in Mumbai and the Mucccadams (who are now known as Clearing & Forwarding Agents.). He ensured that J. Gokaldas earned that highest reputation in the Liner Shipping Industry filling up ships with cargoes like Oil Cakes, Steel Scrap, Manganese, Ferromanganese Ore, Bulk Vegetable Oil, Raw Cotton, Rice, Stones and various other commodities. Shipping agents in Mumbai at that time, some of whom were headed by the English Expatriates and also from the Scandinavian countries, Holland, Germany, Japan etc. often called upon him for his support and to meet various shipping delegations that came from overseas to meet the leading Exporters/Importers etc.
In 1962, with his farsighted vision, Mr. Jairamdas Jaising entered the ship chartering business under the style of Orient Charterers and were immediately empanelled by the Ministry of Transport, Government of India. Mr. Jairamdas with his guidance and connections around the world ensured that Orient Charters went on to become one of the leading ship brokering firms in India. The trend of Break bulk cargo movement saw a drastic change in the early 1970`s with containerisation coming into India and becoming a modern day necessity. With this in mind Mr. Jairamdas started planning ahead and with the support of his friend the late Mr. N. Krishnan, the then General Manager of M/S. Patel Volkart, dreamt of a Ship Agency, which eventually took birth in 1975 under the style of Samrat Shipping Co. Pvt. Ltd.(Agents for Contship Container Lines). Destiny had his dreams take shape but sadly Mr. Jairamdas G Jaising did not live to see his dreams being realised and was suddenly taken away from this planet in 1975.

He is also accompanied by his son and the grandson of Mr. Jairam G. Jaising, Mr. Vivek R. Jaising (the 3rd generation of the Jaising family) and his wife Mrs.Pia Vivek Jaising.
